Prior to a 13-date tour of the U.S., the Academy returns to Cadogan Hall in London with pianist Jeremy Denk. Jeremy is the winner of a 2013 MacArthur ‘Genius’ Fellowship, the 2014 Avery Fisher Prize and Musical America’s 2014 Instrumentalist of the Year award.

Central to this evening’s concerts are two Bach concertos, originally composed for harpsichord, performed here on the piano. Book-ending these are two beautiful Serenades for Strings. The first, by Josef Suk, was in fact inspired by Dvořák’s, which is a much-loved Academy favourite. The connection is also echoed by suggestions that Suk’s Serenade is a portrait of his wife, who was in fact Dvořák’s daughter Otylka.

6.30pm: Pre-concert talk
An absorbing pre-concert talk with Jeremy Denk, Academy violist Robert Smissen and host Helen Wallace.
