Visiting London from Osaka, Japan, the Poole Gakuin Wind & String Orchestras present a programme including favourites such as George Frideric Handel’s Oboe Concerto No.3 in G minor, featuring Yumi Yoshimura, and Sir Malcolm Arnold’s Symphony No.5, Op.74.
The Poole Gakuin orchestras are brought to London by the Music and Cultural Exchange Council International (MCEC International); a Japanese organisation dedicated to bringing Japanese music to the world stage, developing links with musical and cultural organisations worldwide. MCEC International has brought Japanese musicians to some of the best-known auditoriums and festivals in the world, including New York’s Carnegie Hall, Sydney’s Opera House, Germany’s Beethoven Festival and Dublin’s St. Patrick’s Cathedral to perform Handel’s Messiah.
The Poole Gakuin School was established in 1879 by female missionaries of the Church of England, commemorating Bishop Arthur William Poole in Osaka. The Wind & String Orchestras have approximately 40 years of history and currently have over 100 players. Both orchestras have achieved excellent results in competitions and are frequently commissioned to perform in churches throughout Osaka.
