Borodin based his Prince Igor on a 12th-century Russian epic. The opera tells a story of heroism and treachery during Igor’s campaign against the invading Polovtsian tribes. Borodin worked on the opera on and off for 18 years and left it unfinished at his death in 1887. It was completed by Rimsky-Korsakov and Glazunov and given its first performance three years later. This is a rare opportunity to hear one of the greatest Russian operas whose beautiful music includes the much-loved Polovtsian Dances.

Concert performance in English.
