Join City of London Sinfonia for an exciting programme featuring the sounds of Hollywood made famous by the émigré composers who travelled to the USA seeking fame, fortune or refuge.

Exploring the journeys these composers made through their musical output and joined by their Principal Conductor, Michael Collins, CLS bring to life the ‘story of Hollywood’.

The programme opens with Herrmann’s soundtrack to North by Northwest, Hitchcock’s classic American spy thriller starring Cary Grant. The sound of Hollywood’s ‘Golden Age’ is completed with Korngold’s Adventures of Robin Hood Suite from the film of the same name starring Errol Flyn, composed during the composer’s residency in Hollywood.

Alongside Eisler’s Kleine Sinfonie and Stravinsky’s Symphony in Three Movements, Dvořák’s prized Cello Concerto in B minor completes the programme. Written during his residency in New York, the Concerto is an intense outpouring of the Dvořák’s homesick longing for his Czech homeland, and is performed here by Bulgarian cellist and YCAT artist Michael Petrov – a recent recipient of the Guildhall School’s prestigious Gold Medal.
