Concert for the Children of Egypt

A showcase of Egyptian musical talent

Fifteen young Egyptian musicians come from Cairo especially to perform at tonight’s concert, which also features the outstanding soprano Gala El Hadidi, fresh from the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition, and currently appearing as Carmen at Dresden Opera House.

Musicians from Nass Makan, Cairo, perform traditional North African music and are joined by Father Moussa in a traditional Coptic Hymn, and three London premieres of new Egyptian music written since the January 2011 Revolution, are performed by Ahmed Madkour’s new Egyptian Contemporary Classical Music Ensemble, established earlier this year.

The concert, introduced by Sir Dominic Asquith, former UK Ambassador to Egypt, will raise funds for two established Egyptian charities Alfanar and ‘FACE for Children in Need’, both of whom focus their work on children.
