- Tannhäuser Overture
- Four Last Songs
- Piano Quartet No.1, Op.25 (arr. for orchestra by Schoenberg)
- Helena Dix
- Paul Hoskins
This evening, the enhanced forces of the Corinthian Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Paul Hoskins open their performance with Wagner’s overture to his great opera Tannhäuser, followed by Strauss’s Four Last Songs – a work that has penetrated the collective psyche of many music lovers – performed by celebrated Australian-born soprano, Helena Dix.
The orchestral concludes the evening with Schoenberg, a composer who insisted that his works were evolutionary rather than revolutionary, with clear roots in the German romantic tradition. His reverent arrangement of Brahms’s G minor Piano Quartet allows you to be the judge.
