The highlight of the day will be a lecture on bel canto and a masterclass given by the world famous soprano, Nelly Miricioiu.
Nelly Miricioiu has been hailed as one of the most versatile singing-actresses of her generation performing iconic soprano roles opposite Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras, Thomas Allen, Jose Cura, Roberto Alagna and other great artists. Her debut at La Scala Milan as Lucia Di Lammermoor was received with ecstatic reviews. Of her acclaimed Tosca at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 1996, Clive Hirschorn in the Daily Express wrote of her voice ‘that it ravished the house with it’s purity of tone’. While the Financial Times wrote: ‘Her Tosca is an artist down to her fingertips… a theatrical event’. In 2003 she enjoyed immense critical success as Elizabetta in Roberto Devereux by Donizetti at the Royal Opera House of which a recording was released by Opera Rara. ‘It was Miricioiu’s opera and ultimately her evening.’ (Opera News).
