These two acclaimed musicians join forces for a programme of some of the best-loved Romantic works for clarinet and piano, including Brahms’ two clarinet sonatas – the last chamber works he wrote before his death and considered masterpieces of the clarinet repertoire due to their lyrical nature and rich textures.
John Lill also performs some of Brahms’ solo piano works – the passionate Rhapsodies and lyrical Intermezzi.
Emma Johnson has appeared as soloist with many of the world’s leading orchestras and has had pieces written especially for her by John Dankworth, Will Todd and Michael Berkeley amongst others.
‘Ask anyone on the street to name a famous British clarinettist, and if they don’t come out with Acker Bilk, the likelihood is that they will name Emma Johnson, such is the extent of her fame.’ (Music Teacher Magazine)
John Lill is an acclaimed British pianist, whose career has taken him to over 50 countries, both as a recitalist and as a soloist with the world’s greatest orchestras. He has given over 30 BBC Proms concerts and appears regularly with all the major orchestras.
‘John Lill is, without a doubt, one of the finest pianists at work today and his undemonstrative appearance on the stage belies a fiercely passionate and romantic temperament.’ (Seen and Heard International)
