Kai Hoffman Quartet

Out to Lunch series launch

Performers

Kai Hoffman
vocals
Gunther Kurmayr
piano
Geoff Gascoyne
double bass
Sebastiaan de Krom
drums

Joined by the spectacularly tight rhythm section of Gunther Kurmayr, piano, Geoff Gascoyne, double bass, and Sebastiaan de Krom, drums, Miss Kai Hoffman’s very personal new quartet project takes the listener on an intimate and (and rather cheeky) journey through lovers, litigation and loss – whilst proving that contagious laughter really is the best medicine. Aside from her wide-ranging, flexible vocals, Kai’s infectious positive energy infuses her audiences with the spirit of swing, a long-lasting gift lingering for days.

Having previously released albums with both The Ray Gelato Giants and with her own swing & jive band, Kai’s Cats, this new project showcases Kai’s mesmerizing vocals an entirely different setting. From the silky-smooth Geoff Gascoyne arrangement of Pure Imagination from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, to a New Orleans-style take on Beat Poet Fran Landesmann’s sassy Some Boys, with groovy 60s-style originals, sexy Latins and lighting-fast swing numbers in between, Kai Hoffman Quartet has already received rave reviews from audiences at London’s finest jazz clubs, including The 606 in Chelsea & the Parliamentary Jazz Award-winning Hideaway in Streatham, since their formation in November 2011. With an array of very talented musicians, this quartet is extremely versatile and has plenty of surprises in store!
