The longest established professional chamber orchestra in the UK, the London Chamber Orchestra is directed by concertmaster Rosemary Furniss and joined by the Graham Fitkin band, a nonet of strings, percussion and wind instruments, led by LCO Composer in Residence and pianist, Graham Fitkin.
As part of New Music 20×12 the London Chamber Orchestra has commissioned Graham Fitkin to create a new composition in collaboration with poet Glyn Maxwell. The piece is inspired by a Benjamin Britten composition that was part of a documentary film about the postal service and the concert will be a chance to hear both Britten’s Night Mail and Fitkin’s Track to Track.
(*PRS for Music Foundation’s New Music 20×12 is a UK-wide commissioning programme initiated by Jillian Barker and David Cohen, and delivered in partnership with the BBC, LOCOG and NMC Recordings. See www.prsformusicfoundation.com for more information.)
