Regarded as one of the most artistically exciting and successful ensembles on the international classical music scene and including some of the finest musicians from over 20 European countries, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (MCO) was established 15 years ago by luminary conductor Claudio Abbado. By 2008 the French newspaper Le Monde was calling the MCO ‘the best orchestra in the world’. Whatever they play, they play with a ‘chamber’ philosophy: intimate interplay between musicians, intensity and attentiveness. Every concert is an adventure.

For this concert the orchestra is directed from the keyboard by Leif Ove Andsnes, an internationally acclaimed piano star, named ‘the most accomplished pianist of the new generation’ by the New York Times.
