My Duo

Performers

Jason Yarde
saxophone
Andrew McCormack
piano

Yarde started his playing career on alto and soprano with the Jazz Warriors at 16, going on to MD this landmark orchestra and becoming one of its principle writers. He has also performed in a wide variety of bands including work with McToy Tyner, Hermeto Pascoal, Sam Rivers, Hugh Masekela and his own bands include multi award-winning J-life and Acoutastic Bombastic. This prolific composer, arranger, musical director and producer joins forces with award-winning pianist Andrew McCormack in ‘My Duo’.

McCormack has worked and performed with many great artists including Quincy Jones, Manu Katchè, Till Broner, David Arnold, Eric Alexander and Courtney Pine. A great reputation as a collaborator has seen McCormack consistently in a number of long standing groups such Denys Baptiste and Jean Toussaint Quartets and as a pivotal member of the Kyle Eastwood Band which has toured extensively worldwide for the last five years. Eastwood’s 2011 release, Songs from the Chateau, which reached number two in the U.S radio play jazz charts, saw McCormack heavily involved in the writing and performing of the material. To hear Andrew play may evoke the finesse of Keith Jarrett, the soloistic traits of Kenny Kirkland, and the motivic approach of EST. However, his take on piano jazz remains uniquely personal and fresh.
