Following its highly acclaimed UK première of Offenbach’s The Rhine Fairies and Hugh the Drover last season, NSO returns to the Cadogan Hall with Mireille. Considered by many to be Gounod’s musical masterpiece, this is a score of passionate, breathtaking originality, evoking Provence in the height of summer.

Thwarted lovers Mireille and Vincent are separated by their social standing. Joyful Provencal peasant celebrations contrast with a world where superstitions and fear can lead to destruction. Defying her cruel father, Mireille sets out to find her lover against all the odds…

Director/ Designer: Tony Baker
Lighting Designer: Karl Oskar Sørdal
Choreographer: Caroline Pope

NSO’s semi-staged production, in English, uses the original 5-act version.
