Formed in 1891, Orfeó Català is one of Spain’s most historic choirs. Brought together with the express purpose of introducing choral masterpieces (the St Matthew Passion, Missa Solemnis, Mass in B minor) into the country, Orfeó Català was also the driving force behind the construction of the Palau de la Música Catalana concert hall and is still a symbol of huge influence in Catalan culture.

The centrepiece of this Catalan programme is the Cant de les estrelles (Song of the Stars), a work by Enric Granados which had been lost for decades and was recently re-discovered. Crowning the performance is a selection of works by Pau Casals, Toldrà, Montsalvatge and others, illustrating the remarkable legacy of this territory.
