Commencing with a high-octane opening, Glinka’s famous Overture to his opera Ruslan and Ludmila sets the scene before the young and exciting cellist, Kian Soltani, performs one of the great Romantic concertos; Dvořák’s passionate Cello Concerto.

Cristian Măcelaru conducts Tom Coult’s Codex, a piece inspired from the fantastical works of artist Luigi Serafini – it’s a compendium of imaginary animals and landscapes designed to charm and mesmerize the listener.

The dazzling orchestration and fairytale story within Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite (1919) rounds out the 2018-19 season with a breath-taking finale.

Tonight’s concert is supported by Resonate, a PRS foundation initiative in partnership with the Association of British Orchestras, BBC Radio 3 and The Boltini Trust.
