EFG London Jazz Festival: Sibongile Khumalo

with special guests Gloria Bosman and Thandiswa Mazwa

Sibongile Khumalo plays her only UK show with her band and special guest Gloria Bosman and Thandiswa Mazwa.

‘Larger than life and possessing a voice to match she delivered a forceful show that combined traditional jazz standards with many of her own compositions. By combining township jazz with opera and roots music she has been able to create an exciting new South African sound. A vocal powerhouse and a diva for the 21st century, Khumalo is one of the greatest voices to emerge from Africa in the past 25 years.’ (The Times)

Gloria Bosman combines careers in music and theatre. She’s played a string of great shows at the Market Theatre, most recently Hugh Masekela’s Songs of Migration.

Thandiswa is the lead singer of Bongo Maffin now stepping out as a solo artist who has collaborated with artists including Meshell Ndegeocello. She’s guested with Hugh Masekela several times in London and sang with Paul Simon in Hyde Park on the Graceland tour.

Part of the South African Season in the UK. SA-UK Seasons 2014-2015 is a partnership between the Department of Arts and Culture, South Africa and the British Council.
