If the phrase ‘male a cappella group’ conjures up an image of students in blue blazers, ties, and khakis singing traditional college songs on ivied campuses… think again. Straight No Chaser (SNC) are neither strait-laced nor straight-faced, but neither are they vaudeville-style kitsch. The group have emerged as a phenomenon with a massive fan base, numerous TV appearances, and proven success with CD releases plus amassed over 50 million views on YouTube.
The group originally came together in the fall of 1996 at Indiana University, basically as ’10 guys who happened to be good friends who also liked to sing’. Choosing the members carefully for personality as well as vocal talent – SNC set itself apart from other a cappella groups with its contemporary repertoire and dynamic approach, quickly headlining concerts.
On the road, Straight No Chaser has built a reputation as an unforgettable live act. They play a massive US tour throughout November and December before coming to the UK for this very special show. On their live show The Trades said that Straight No Chaser are: ‘Triumphant! New audience members surely left amazed, and returning fans were excited to see and hear the new material.’
Their Happy Hour Tour comes on the heels of the release of Under The Influence, their fourth album release through Atlantic Records. The album features contributions from superstars Jason Mraz, Rob Thomas, Phil Collins, Dolly Parton and more! Straight No Chaser is the real deal, the captivating sound of ten unadulterated human voices coming together to make extraordinary music that is moving people in a fundamental sense… and with a sense of humour.
Straight No Chaser have taken the US by storm and it won’t be long before they captivate the rest of the world with their outstanding a cappella interpretations.
