A concert at Ireland’s ‘other’ Chelsea church brings together three choirs; the Addison Singers, Sloane Square Choral Society and the Choir of Holy Trinity, the Bernardi Chamber Orchestra and the baritone Roderick Williams in a programme spanning more than half a century of Ireland’s compositional career.

Beginning with ‘Psalm 42’, for soloists, choir & strings; Ireland’s submission for his Batchelor of Music degree at Durham University in 1908, and ending with his touching setting of Psalm 23 for solo baritone, thought to be the last music that the composer wrote.

In between come such well-known works as ‘The Holy Boy’, ‘Greater Love Hath No Man’, the masterly ‘Concertino Pastorale’ and ‘Five Songs’ – transcribed for strings by Graham Parlett and Ireland himself. Fittingly the programme also includes a recent work by the young English composer Alexander L’Estrange; a homage to Ireland’s most famous hymn tune ‘My Song is Love Unknown’.
