The Bill Evans / Scott LaFaro Songbook with Gareth Williams & Dave Green

Dave Green’s first album was with Ben Webster. He has recorded subsequently with many of the great American musicians. Dave is a living legend of the British jazz scene. He has won the Top Bassist award at the British Jazz Awards so many times that we all stopped counting!

Gareth Williams has performed all over the world with artists such as Claire Martin, Tommy Smith and Jim Mullen as well as international stars from James Moody and Art Farmer to Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman and Jerry Bergonzi. He appears on around 50 jazz albums.

Dave recently made a documentary for the BBC about his hero Scott LaFaro and that gave Gareth the excuse to insist on doing this project that has been close to their hearts for years.

For some time now they have been thinking of a way in which they could portray their love of these musicians without having to go down the usual ‘Tribute to…’ or a direct pastiche/copy of their work. Whilst you will hear very direct influence and in-depth reworking of the original stylistic devices, you will also hear the individual skills and styles of Dave and Gareth. Gareth has immersed himself in the harmony of Bill Evans for many years and Dave is a Scott Lafaro disciple, so expect a thorough investigation into the sound world of Bill and Scott.
