Works inspired by Shakespeare and Byron make up the first half of this concert by the Doctors’ Orchestra, appearing for the fifth time at Cadogan Hall and again playing in support of the charity Freedom from Torture. The orchestra is joined by the distinguished violist Philip Dukes for a performance of Berlioz’s Harold in Italy, a concerto in all but name and written for Paganini.

The second half of the concert is given over to Elgar’s acutely observed and sumptuous Enigma Variations, whose ninth variation (Nimrod) must be one of the most loved and most requested pieces in the entire classical repertoire.
