Antoni Wit, Artistic Director of the Warsaw Philharmonic, is one of the most highly regarded Polish conductors and an enthusiastic champion of Polish music. The concert opens with music from two revered Polish composers: Moniuszko, generally accepted as the father of Polish national opera, and whose work is filled with patriotic folk themes and Panufnik, who was instrumental in the re-establishment of the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra after the Second World War.
Warsaw-born violinist, Kuba Jakowicz, performs Bruch’s richly melodious Violin Concerto, written when the composer was just 30 years old.
Free pre-concert music in the Culford Room from 6.30pm:
Bruch: 8 Stücke, Op. 83 (selection)
(Rachael Chesney, Florian Sattler, Natsumi Ikenaga)
