- Overture to Don Giovanni
- Piano Concerto No. 1
- Symphony No. 3 (Eroica)
- Nikolai Demidenko
- Jan Latham-Koenig
We regret to announce that the previously advertised Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra is unable to perform tonight’s concert:
“The Ministry of Culture in Poland has cut the touring subsidy for the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra with immediate effect and with the loss of this subsidy, the Orchestra is unable to undertake its scheduled UK tour.”
We are thrilled to announce that Flanders Symphony Orchestra, the distinguished Belgian orchestra, will perform in its place, with conductor Jan Latham-Koenig. The programme remains unchanged apart from the opening work which is now Mozart’s Overture to Don Giovanni, and pianist Nikolai Demidenko remains as soloist.
The award-winning pianist joins the orchestra for Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 whose opening theme, presented through the sound of singing violins, is full of spirit and flourishes. The middle movement is described by Chopin as ‘romance-like and melancholic’ and ‘should give the impression of a pleasant glance at a place where a thousand fond memories come to mind’.
Beethoven’s revolutionary Eroica Symphony completes the programme.
