Norway’s Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1765, and its rich history includes a period under the artistic direction of Edvard Grieg.
The orchestra’s recently appointed Chief Conductor is Edward Gardner, acclaimed for his work with English National Opera, who showcases his superb musicians here in a colourful and compelling programme, including Bartók’s virtuosic, orchestral showpiece, Concerto for Orchestra.
One of the outstanding cellists of today, Norwegian Truls Mørk, is the soloist for Elgar’s deeply-felt Cello Concerto.
