The first half of this programme draws together a sequence of carols with recited poems to create a celebration of this very special time of year. Starting with the familiar story of the shepherds visiting a cow shed to see a newly born baby boy, to anticipating the sacrifice to come at the end of his life, and ending with a rousing arrangement of 'Joy to the World', this programme includes carols by Tchaikovsky, Bach, Rutter and Salvation Army composer June Collin, arrangements by Carl Davis, Philip Lawson and Bob Chilcott and poems by Christina Rossetti, Rudyard Kipling and Charles Causley.
The second half of the programme is from the lighter side of the King's Singers repertoire and concludes with Christmas pieces sung in close harmony.
This concert is Stephen Connolly’s last performance with the group after 24 years as a much loved and admired King’s Singer, and will be recorded for a live burn CD which will be available to buy when the concert finishes.
