Sunday 5 October, 2008 7pmBeloved Clara with Lucy Parham, Charles Dance & Joanna David
Lucy Parham Charles Dance Joanna David
Programme:
The intense and fascinating relationships between Robert Schumann, his wife Clara and Johannes Brahms are examined in this programme of music and readings.
Music by all three is performed by the award-winning pianist Lucy Parham.
Diary extracts, read by acclaimed actors *Charles Dance and Joanna David, bring to life the sometimes troubled marriage of Robert and Clara, the arrival in their household of the dynamic, 21-year-old Brahms, and the deepening relationship between the young musician and Clara.
"All three performers are given a satisfying amount of good material into which to sink their teeth. The music is well chosen and played with an exquisite touch and stylistic empathy by Parham."
Gramophone Magazine
“The readings combine great dignity with a delicate poignancy. The changing moods of the Schumann and Brahms repertoire, from the capricious and turbulent to the reflective and haunting, are deftly interpreted by Lucy Parham..."
