Madeleine Lovell conductor St George's Chamber Orchestra Julietta Demetriades soprano James Hancock baritone Katherine Broderick soprano Anando Mukerjee tenor
Programme:
Mendelssohn: Die schone Melusine Overture, op. 32
Respighi: Deita silvane, P.147
Berlioz: Les nuits d’ate, Op.7
Michael Pringsheim: Eichendorff Liederkreis (world première)
Ravel: Pavane pour une infante defunte
Vaughan Williams: Songs of Travel
Four passionate song cycles. Four sumptuous voices.
London Lyric Opera’s ‘Cycles’ explores the rich Romanticism of Berlioz’s Les nuits d’été; the mystical sincerity of Vaughan Williams’ Songs of Travel and the evanescent colours of Respighi’s Deità silvane and premières Michael Pringsheim’s exquisite new cycle Eichendorff Liederkreis. Conducted by Madeleine Lovell, the programme is completed by two purely orchestral narratives – Mendelssohn’s evocation of the legendary Melusine and Ravel’s Pavane.
The concert will feature four exceptional artists, of whom the critics have said:
Katherine Broderick “Broderick sings with an ardour and generosity of communication" Hilary Finch, The Times
Kathleen Ferrier Award, Maggie Teyte Prize and the Guildhall Gold Medal.
Julietta Demetriades ‘effortlessly master[ed] technical difficulties … bringing out expressiveness and dynamic power’ Süddeutsche Zeitung
Anando Mukerjee “An artist … with fine sensibility” John Steane, Opera Now
James Hancock "… sang the Strauss group with a thrilling voice of searing intensity" Clive Connell, The Age, Melbourne
Cycles: An un-missable feast of song.
Doors open at 6.30pm with a pre-performance talk by renowned critic, John Amis.
