Gilad with Strings
Featuring the Gilad Atzmon Quartet and the Sigamos String Quartet

The Gilad Atzmon Quartet
The Sigamos String Quartet

Programme:
In this stunning performance the outstanding jazz saxophonist Gilad Atzmon (winner of BBC Jazz Award) pays a special tribute to Charlie Parker, performing new adaptations of music from the legendary 'Charlie Parker With Strings' album.

The Gilad Atzmon Quartet and the Sigamos String Quartet perform classics such as 'Just Friends, 'Everything Happens to Me', 'April in Paris', 'I Didn’t Know What Time It Was' and 'If I Should Lose You', as well as specially composed new works.

The combination of Atzmon’s unparalleled bebop virtuosity and stunning string arrangements creates a powerful and unforgettable performance.

Over the years Gilad Atzmon's music has moved more and more towards a cultural hybrid. As a bandleader and reed player he has been amazing his listeners with his powerful personal style that combines great bebop artistry and Middle-Eastern roots in a sophisticated, sometimes ironical manner. Gilad's live performances are simply breathtaking and overwhelming.

The musicians of the Sigamos String Quartet have worked with the like of Tango Siempre, Oi Va Voi, F-ire Collective, The Philharmonia, London Mozart Players, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, London Chamber Orchestra, English Touring Opera, Camerata Ireland, Northern Sinfonia, New London Orchestra, The Orchestra of St. John's Smith Square, Moscow City Ballet, Kokoro, English National Opera and The Goldburg Ensemble.

"Atzmon's fluid lyricism is in full flow on songbook classics and worldly originals. But as sweet romance morphs to modernist uncertainty, the bittersweet balance and rich emotional palette equally impress." - Financial Times *****

"Maybe because he's such a wild card himself, saxophonist Atzmon plays Charlie Parker with a perfect mix of bluster and vulnerability." - The Independent March 2009
