The brass fanfares of Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio Italien will stir this concert into colourful and vigorous life, one overflowing with melodic beauty, joyous wit and radiant sunshine. Tchaikovsky loved Italy, as this invigorating piece displays; Mendelssohn similarly, his ‘Italian’ Symphony is brimful of beauty, tunefulness and energy. Sparkle and tenderness enlighten the Rossini Overture, while Paganini’s devilish challenges to the violinist should make for spectacular listening and much that is musically engaging.
