Programme:
Titi Robin’s music highlights the musical roots of his personal circumstances and inspiration. The journey visits France, North Africa, the Middle East and North India but most pertinently reflects the gypsy heritage that Titi has become somewhat an ambassador of in his home country of France.
First ever UK release of Titi Robin’s most celebrated work featuring the ‘Gipsy queen of India’ - Gulabi Supera - and supported with 3 live dates at the end of September 2009.
As a leading gypsy music exponent for the best part of thirty years and perhaps best known for the seminal album Gitans, it was no surprise that he was nominated for a BBC World Music Award in 2008 and performed at WOMAD Australia and New Zealand earlier this year.
Titi Robin has composed and collaborated with a plethora of International stars both in the studio and on stage including Gulabi Sapera (India), Cameron De la Isla (Andalucia), Esma Redzepoza (Macedonia), The Gipsy Kings (Spain) and written soundtracks Ole (2005) & The Code (2002).
‘One of those wizard finger pickers that can master any instrument that looks even vaguely like a guitar’ Charlie Gillet BBC Radio 3 ‘ Rich beyond words’ World Music Central
"I used to dream of a world in which composers, performers and producers could make music without being constrained by the bottlenecks of genre and market forces. French guitarist Titi Robin has made an album as if tht fantasy were true ... the result is rich and moving, a tale with the depth of a novel and the narrative drive of a folk legend." John L. Walters THE GUARDIAN
" I do think he is one of the world's great musicians and visionaries." Charlie Gillet, BBC-London
