The Choir of Retrospect Ensemble presents a programme of choral masterpieces celebrating the ‘Golden Age’ of Russian Orthodox sacred music. Rachmaninov’s famous a cappella setting of the All-Night Vigil (‘Vespers’ Op. 37) forms the backbone of a mystical musical journey from darkness to light. This is music designed to elevate the soul and captivate the ear; monumental in scale yet able to capture the sublime intimacy of mankind’s prayerful encounter with its Creator. Few have ever managed to employ a human chorus to greater effect.
