Johann Adolph Hasse (1699-1783) was one of the leading composers of his day, and was described by Leopold Mozart as “the father of music”. He himself considered Piramo e Tisbe, here receiving its UK premiere 250 years after it was composed, to be the greatest of his 62 operas, incorporating and developing many of Gluck’s operatic reforms, and it contains music of sumptuous lyricism and beauty.

Conductor Ian Page and his acclaimed period-instrument orchestra are joined by an outstanding international cast in what promises to be a highlight of the London opera season.

Sung in Italian with English surtitles.

6.15pm: Pre-concert Talk
